Perfume Bottles

Bejeweled Perfume Vials

The glass base is created first utilizing a variety of techniques and finishes. The containers are made from molten glass by blowing or hot forming solid glass into various shapes. The metal tops are created by soldering or lost wax casting. Stoppers are all silver, gold or a combination of both. Precious and semi-precious stones are used as decorative effects. All glass and metal pieces are made by Elaine Hyde.

Coral Reef Perfume Bottles

The inspiration for these vessels came from my introduction to scuba diving in the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean. I have tried to capture the colors and magic of the glorious underwater world in each piece. Every bottle is varied and unique.

The solid glass base is hot worked with the colors formed in layers from the core to the outside surface. The stoppers are formed over the glass with wax which are then cast in the lost wax technique. The patterns are from actual beach shells found during my travels to tropical destinations. Tops are sterling silver under 24 karat gold plating. All pearls used are cultured. Coral and shells used are found not harvested. A very limited quantity is available as the material is natural.

In 1994 when I first started making coral reef perfumes the oceans were much healthier.
In the last 30 years the coral population has decreased by 50 percent. I will no longer make these pieces with natural coral.
